In my day to day I use different types of marketing automations with ChatGPT, one of the most demanded is sales emails. Sales emails can be used for different purposes, from offering products or services to a database, to simply replying to messages left on a landing page form.

Although automations are one of the great improvements in marketing, a flaw that many companies commit is the repetition of the message, that is, they always send the same generic texts to cover almost all possibilities, which makes customers perceive the lack of human attention and care.

But now thanks to ChatGPT and the possibility of integrating it through the API to different marketing platforms we can create personalized messages that will give the feeling that it is a person who is writing the messages and not a bot writing from a template.

An example of a zapier automation using ChatGPT.

In this post I am going to share with you the secret to do it the right way and get the expected results.

It is important to keep in mind that for the execution of mass campaigns you must have the right tools. To send an occasional email, a Gmail account may be enough, but if you are going to send mass mailings you will need a platform such as Mailrelay that will allow you to send all your emails securely and reliably.

How to create sales mailings with Artificial Intelligence

The process to create sales emails with Artificial Intelligence is simple. First, we will give the directions to the Artificial Intelligence through a prompt. In this case, we request the creation of an email to our prospects, including key selling aspects. Depending on whether you offer a product or a service, you will have to change the prompts.

When the AI is clear about the context, you can start creating your email. Chat GPT has a free version that allows you to get started, although it can be a bit slow. But if you notice that this tool facilitates and automates your work, I would recommend that you opt for the Premium plan.

The important thing here is to be very clear about what you want to do, so I am going to give you a list of steps to follow during the execution of the process:

1)Define the Target Audience.

Before writing your email, it is crucial to understand who you are targeting. Analyze your customers’ demographics, interests and buying behaviors.

Understanding your audience is critical. By defining your target audience, you can tailor your message to resonate with your customers’ needs, wants and behaviors. This increases the relevance and effectiveness of your communication, improving response rates and brand loyalty.

Example: If you sell sports equipment, you should identify that the main target group is people between 20-35 years old interested in outdoor activities.

2) Establish Clear Objectives:

Define what you want to achieve with your email campaign – is it to increase sales, web traffic, or brand awareness?

Having clear objectives allows you to measure the success of your email marketing campaigns. This helps you focus your efforts and resources on strategies that support these objectives, ensuring that each element of your campaign contributes to your overall goals.

Example: The objective could be to increase sales of a new line of running shoes by 25% in one month.

3) Generate Custom Content:

Use AI tools to create relevant and personalized content. These tools can generate subject lines, text bodies and calls to action based on previous data that you can get from your prospect’s database, such as name, interests, country, business line, etc. It all depends on what you want to achieve and what your needs are.

ChatGPT will not only help you create a personalized message with the form data, it can also analyze user intent, determine if it is spam or not, as well as analyze large volumes of data to identify trends and preferences, allowing you to create more attractive and effective content.

The following example has been modified from a real case of one of my clients

This is a marketing agency and they have a quote request form on their website, where they ask for Name, Email, Objectives and Investment, based on this we ask ChatGPT to generate a response taking into account the details of the request.

El prompt:

You have left data in our contact form, name, email, objectives, investment. Analyze the information and determine: If the data entered is Spam, a potential customer or someone offering services. If the investment is less than 100$ it is possible that we are not the service company you are looking for because we focus on companies that make investments according to the market niches in which we specialize, if it is between 100$ and 1000$ we will be happy to offer you our service packages, if it is more than 1000$ our sales team will contact you very soon to offer you a personalized attention, if you can not determine the amount to invest, answer that our company receives many requests daily and for us it is important to pre-evaluate before responding so if you do not know how much to invest we invite you to fill out the application again and put even the maximum amount willing to invest to determine if we can work with you. If you are a prospective client, someone offering services or spam, write a personalized response according to the level of investment you have indicated, respond with a friendly and cordial tone, otherwise just reply thank you for contacting us, but at this time we can not attend more requests. Data of the form: (Here are pasted the values of the form)

Different answers generated with different user inputs:

Customer Message 1: Thank you for contacting us and letting us know about your goals regarding your website. We are happy to know that you have an investment of $1500 USD to carry out your project, so we want to offer you our service packages. Our sales team will contact you to offer you a personalized attention and help you in the realization of your project.

Message Client 2: Thank you for contacting us. We have registered your request to know the effective strategies to sell more with the investment of $100USD.
We will contact you very soon to offer you more detailed information about our services.

Message Client 3: Thank you very much for contacting us. We are delighted to hear that you are interested in improving your internal processes to increase productivity. Our company specializes in providing consulting and advisory services for companies that want to improve their internal processes. We are confident that we can help you achieve your goals. If your investment is 100€, we will be happy to offer you our service packages. Our sales team will contact you to offer you a personalized attention.

Note: All these sample messages were generated with ChatGPT using the same prompt.

4) A/B tests:

A/B testing allows you to better understand which elements of your email work best. AI can process and analyze the results of these tests more efficiently, allowing you to quickly optimize your campaigns to improve their performance.

Example: Test two different subject lines to see which one has a higher open rate.

5) Audience Segmentation:

Segmenting your audience allows you to send more targeted and relevant messages to different groups. This not only improves the effectiveness of your emails but also helps build stronger relationships with your audience by showing them that you understand and value their specific needs.

Example: Send targeted mailings to those who bought sneakers in the last six months.

6) Optimization of the Time of Shipment:

You can also use AI tools to determine the best time to send emails based on when users are most likely to open them.

The timing of an email can have a big impact on its effectiveness. Optimizing the timing ensures that your emails arrive when users are most likely to open them, improving open and click-through rates.

Example: The AI determines that Tuesday mornings are the best time to send emails to your target audience.

7) Analysis of Results:

Analyzing results allows you to understand what works and what does not. This is crucial to continually improve your marketing strategies. Identifying patterns and trends in the data that may not be obvious to the naked eye allows you to make more informed decisions.

Example: Emails with interactive images have 30% more clicks.

8) Continuous Adjustments:

Based on analytics, adjust your email strategy on an ongoing basis to improve results. The market and consumer preferences are constantly changing. Making continuous adjustments to your strategy based on data and analytics allows your marketing to be agile and relevant, continually improving the performance of your campaigns.

Example: If shorter emails have better open rates, adjust your strategy to send more concise emails.

9) Customer Feedback Integration:

Including and analyzing customer feedback helps you understand their expectations and how you can improve your products or services. This not only improves the customer experience but also fosters a stronger and more loyal relationship with your audience.

Include surveys or feedback requests in your mailings and use AI to analyze responses and tailor future communications.

Example: A survey reveals that customers want more information about shoe care, which you can include in future mailings.

Each of these steps contributes to creating a more effective, customer-centric, data-driven email marketing strategy, which is essential in today’s competitive landscape.
